Ginny/Harry does feel a bit contrived and sort of out of the blue for me, but I think a lot of that has to do with the fact that Ginny's character is quite underdeveloped.

Neville/Hannah I can buy because there's a whole year of the DA resistence that goes on at Hogwarts that we don't see. In the Room of Requirement, despite the banners on the walls, there aren't really those house divides. They're all in it together. Those left behind at Hogwarts would get close, and those who hadn't previously been more than acquaintances could easily become best friends or lovers. Like the Dean/Luna that's hinted at at Shell Cottage. I know that JKR has said since that Luna ends up marrying some descendant of Newt Scamander, but the Dean/Luna thing in DH is a good example of two people bonding through shared experience who previously had little or no connection.

You have a point about us not knowing what happens at Hogwarts in the Trio's absence. I would've still liked a hint earlier though about Neville/Hannah. (As there arguably is about Neville/Parvati in Book One.)

And JKR had all that time to convincingly show us Harry/Ginny, and she blew it. I think Ginny is a well-developed character, if sometimes inconsistent. (But then, so's Hermione in Book 6.) I just don't like that when she was with Harry, it mostly happened "offscreen," and then she was pushed to the edges again in Book 7. Still, if Harry didn't have so much chemistry with Ginny's brother, I probably wouldn't mind as much. ;-)

Of course, with the Neville/Hannah, people often 'remeet' years ahead in time. For all we know, Neville could have come back from some extended botantical expedition in the Amazon at the age of twenty five or thirty and run into Hannah when he called into the Leaky Cauldron for a pint.

Oh, I'm right there with you on that one!
